I
thought there may be a few keen webmasters out there, and
everyone knows how much they like getting advice so here are
some of the places that I have used to create this and other
sites.
Sitegadgets
- A way cool site that has 24 "gadgets" to add to
your site.
Hitbox
- Definately the best hit counter on the Internet. This is
definately a must for monitoring traffic. They also have heaps
of tools to tune up your website.
Freeservers
- Free hosting with a variety of subdomains to choose from
(8k.com for example) and all your site gets is an ad banner
like the one at the top of this page. You get 20Mb of space
and unlimited email addresses at your new domain. You can
update your service later on if you want to get serious. There
is a banner free option but it costs $5.95 per month (a bargain
really.) They also claim to be search engine friendly which
means that sites hosted by freeservers usually get ranked
higher than those on other free hosts.
Clickthru
- A good network with a 1:1 click ratio. You can earn clicks
by surfing other members sites too. Good to generate traffic
but I think it's mostly other webmasters clicking away trying
to generate traffic for their own sites.
Listbot
- If you've joined our mailing list then you will have an
idea of what it is. That's right, a mailing list manager.
Ever thought about starting your own mailing list, this is
a great place to start.
Amazon
- I'm certain that everyone knows what Amazon is. What began
as the worlds largest ever bookstore is now looking at being
the worlds largest ever store. They offer a commission based
affiliate program so you can earn money by sending people
to Amazon to buy stuff.
bcentral
LinkExchange - A banner exchange program that seems to be
pretty good. I'm not sure how much traffic it has sent my
way however.
Commission
Junction - Probably the best place for webmasters to go
to find targetted affiliate programs that will integrate into
their site. This place has an affiliate program for just about
anything and you get a combined cheque even if you join a number
of programs.
Hamster
- Get 10c per click for text links. Hamster has a fully customizable
banner that integrates into your page as a number of text
links.
ExitExchange
- Build traffic when people leave your website. When someone
leaves your site another window opens in the background with
another members site. Everytime someone leaves your site,
you earn another visitor (in theory.) I just hope I am not
scaring people away with the popup. If you think popups are
a dumb idea, let me know.
